So many of you have said...I want more BOY prints! Where are they? Oh, I agree! Where are they? I have been struggling to get some good "boy" prints out, and I have asked myself WHY??!! I have the most darling boy who inspires me every day! For some reason, it is just a lot harder for me to come up with something that I actually like. The characters in my art are very "gentle" which isn't often portrayed these days. But I have to be careful that "gentle" doesn't turn into "feminine." You know what I mean?
For instance: as a child, I could never tell if Christopher Robin was a girl or a boy. Thus my challenge.
But I think I may have hit a breakthrough on this one. I might actually be able to really get some "boy" prints out there! I like the orange and blue, the European vintage feel....but it definitely isn't "girly."
Gentle, yes. Girly, no. Horray!!
I won't post this until I have the other two to go with it: Avion (french for Airplane) and Chien (dog) or something like that. Haven't finished those yet...which means they are always subject to change.
In the mean time, little French boy is waiting to hang on someone's wall very soon.

I really like the inspiration for this print, but I can't help but notice that the little boy's neck seems a bit thick.
I love that you chose not to outline the balloon. It reminds me of 50s style illustrations.
I agree w/the neck thing. And to be honest I am not fan of the orange coloring. BUT I like that you did scruff up his hair a bit, even the European boys have mussed up hair, untucked shirts, or ragged jeans. But that is a hard balance....plus you're not a boy...but I think w/boys, as you've shown w/Ian, they always seem to be busy and dirty, opposed to girls, who are more often (but not always) more clean and gentle.

Good on you for taking up the challenge to try and satisfy all of your criteria and coming up with the goods.
I think his neck is fine. He's leaning his head back, it's the way it should look. I think he's lovely! Can't wait to see the others.
Oh my gosh Sarah I am so excited about this one! Love the dots and the short shorts and the balloon...I absolutely LOVE it and I can't wait to see the airplane and the dog! These fit my boy (and me) to a T. I will def be ordering these when they arrive in the shop! Good job. xoxo

One quick thing, though -- "balloon" in French is "le ballon", with only one "o".
